Each December, glowing candles line neighborhoods across the Triangle and beyond, as more than 40 neighborhoods come together for the annual Light A Luminary in support of the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill.
Now in its 26th year, the project brings together local communities in honor of the families staying at the House who are unable to be in their own home during the holidays due to their child’s serious illness or injuries. During December, the House will offer luminary kits for sale at $10 each. Each kit includes supplies for ten luminaries. All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. Last year alone, Light A Luminary raised more than $70,000.
Every neighborhood has a coordinator, or group of coordinators who organize the community’s luminary and fundraising efforts. Each neighborhood chooses a lighting night that works best for their community. The luminary lighting is a special night for young and old alike as we usher in the holiday season with the beautiful glow of candlelight.
